Also commonly referred to as ‘micro needling’ or ‘micro skin needling’, this minimally-invasive procedure creates teeny-tiny microscopic holes in the skin, causing micro injuries that trigger the natural wound healing response and stimulate tissue generation through a nifty process called Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT). This helps break down the old and damaged strands of collagen and stimulates the production of new collagen (and we all know that more collagen = a plumper, smoother and more radiant looking complexion). One of the great things about Skin Needling is that the outer layer of skin remains intact, removing most of the risks and negative side effects. How many treatments will I need?
This will depend on your skin type and concerns, however best results are usually seen from three skin treatments, spaced about 4-6 weeks apart. When you come in for your initial consultation, we’ll create a tailored treatment plan just for you!
Is there any downtime?
You can expect very minimal downtime after your Skin Needling treatment other than an extra little rosy glow that will subside over 24 hours. Results will continue to improve with each treatment. Depending on the individual you may experience mild redness and swelling for up to 4 days post Skin Needling treatment at our Perth clinic. You may also experience bruising, mild crusting and scabbing 2-3 days post treatment, short-term skin dryness, tightness, itching and burning, skin peeling and short-term darkening of skin pigmentation (followed by lightening) The level of discomfort felt during Skin Needling will vary from person to person, but we’d rate the pain around three out of ten without local anaesthetic.
Handy to know
Safe for babes who are pregnant or breast-feeding! We exclusively use SkinPen in-clinic as it’s the only needling device recognised by the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods and can only be used by a medically-trained practitioner. It’s also a heck of a lot safer and produces more substantial results!
